FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Company behind “Cool-ish” Bird Feeding Acquired by Their Production Partners. Bird Feeding Suddenly Even Cool-er.

Carmel, Indiana – The Mr. Canary Company, a trailblazing private enterprise known for its unique business model and catchy tagline “the company that made bird feeding cool-ish,” is thrilled to announce its acquisition by The Arc of Greater Boone County, a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The newly formed LLC is named Mainstreet Marketing Enterprises, LLC dba, Mr. Canary Company.

This merger marks a significant step in the world of social enterprise. An innovative collaboration between a for-profit company and a not-for-profit organization set the partnership apart from typical social enterprises. Instead of donations, Mr. Canary Company offered jobs exclusively to people with disabilities. And now, that community organization owns the Mr. Canary Company.

Mr. Canary’s CEO/Founder, Jan Long, says, “Pam Verbarg is an extraordinary leader for the Arc. She and I share a deep belief in the importance of work. So much more than just money, work encourages self-reliance, a feeling of worth, and an ability to contribute, something we all desire. Pam and her team never waver in putting the people they serve at the forefront of their actions.”

By joining The Arc of Greater Boone County, The Mr. Canary brand continues its commitment to people with disabilities. Jan Long, its CEO and co-founder, said, “To have the people who worked so hard for Mr. Canary now OWN the company…it’s just the greatest imaginable way I could leave. I’m ecstatic and so optimistic about the next iteration of the company.”

Mr. Canary, founded by visionary entrepreneurs and sisters Jan Long and Chris Mowery (retired), captured the hearts of bird enthusiasts and nature lovers with their innovative and whimsical approach to bird feeding. Their ‘cool-ish’ bird feeders – pre-filled with seed – make it simple and convenient for people to feed birds as they offer a ‘good-for-you’ connection with nature.

“We’ve always based our actions on making a positive difference, not just in the world of bird feeding but in our community, as well,” said Long, CEO of The Mr. Canary Company. “Our partnership with The Arc of Greater Boone County aligns perfectly with our core values, allowing this company we started to create a lasting impact.”

The Arc of Greater Boone County has been a stalwart advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, striving to ensure they lead fulfilling lives and participate actively in their communities. With this acquisition, The Arc will expand its reach and resources, while Mr. Canary’s products will continue flourishing with a revitalized purpose.

“We are excited to welcome The Mr. Canary Company into The Arc family,” remarked Pam Verbarg, Executive Director of the Arc of Greater Boone County. “This merger reinforces our commitment to creating opportunities and inclusivity for all while continuing to deliver the excellent products the brand is known for.”

Customers and supporters of The Mr. Canary Company can rest assured the beloved brand will remain intact, with its “cool-ish” ethos, quality products, and simple designs preserved. In addition, it will help The Arc provide additional opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in meaningful work within their expanded enterprise and in the community.
