It’s the opinion of the owner of our company that having grandkids is one of the very few life experiences that actually EXCEED its hype.

When Luke comes to visit, he and ‘Mimi’ jump on trampolines, play in the water, ‘hide from bad guys,’ and stay up too late. At the end of the visit, all sugared-up and spoiled to the limit, Mimi sends him home. It’s basically, paradise. For both of them.

Sooner or later, though, a birthday/holiday/some-other-kind of gift-giving-event rolls around along with the usual questions: What should we get, a ‘fun’ toy, or an educational one?” “Will they like it?” “Do they already HAVE one?” Grandparents know the drill.

Getting the right gift for your Grand is hard. Technology changes so fast the gift is almost obsolete before they get the wrapping paper off. So here’s an idea, how about a bird feeder?

“Wait, whaat? A bird feeder…for a kid’s gift?”

Think about it. Most kids today get WAY more screen time, than nature time. And even the ones who play outside are cooped-up inside most of the winter. A bird feeder is a way to give your Grand a reason to ‘look up’ away from screens, every day.

Bird feeding isn’t even low-tech, it’s 100% NO-tech, and that’s precisely where the value lies.

Even for a few minutes, doing something as simple as watching birds at a feeder is a connection with nature, and that, studies show, improves our physical and mental wellness.

And for a bonus, sharing the experience usually turns out to be a lifelong connection with each other. No kidding, over 80% of people who feed birds started because of an introduction from a loved one.

Luke and Jan send photos with each other of the birds that come to their feeders. They also share made-up bird calls and bird names (“Did you hear that? It sounded like “Tooty-fruity, tooty-fruity” or, “Oh, I think that one’s called a Red-beaked, Beetle-bopper! No wait, it’s just Larry.”)  Together, they’ll create a bond that, studies predict, Luke will share with his Grands.

“But what about setup and clean-up?”

Right, there are chores involved in feeding birds. With traditional feeders, those duties can feel like a part-time maintenance job. We disliked that part so much we invented a brand new, patented system that replaces drudge with delight.

With our system there’s NO MORE:

  • hauling heavy, bulky bags; or,
  • scoops, funnels, spill clean-up supplies; or,
  • storage bins to keep rodents out of seed bags; or,
  • scrubbing gross stuff off feeding surfaces.

We’ve eliminated the worst part of feeding birds, so you can focus on the best part: ENJOYING them! Give your Grand a thoughtful gift that will help them step away from virtual life and experience the real one.

Oh, and those memories you’ll make? They’re on us.
